Here is the list of top tourist destination in Uttarakhand.

 

1. Mussoorie

Mussoorie literally means Smokey place in English. Mussoorie is located at an elevation of 1900 meters above sea level. It is well known for its cool climate. In the summer it does not get much cooler than 11 degrees Celsius while in winter temperatures touch around -4 degree Celsius. It has beautiful hill stations, tea estates, and forested hills. There are many places of interest here including the Kempty Falls, Gandhi Ashram, Victoria Hospital, and the Bishnoi Village.

2. Auli

Auli lies at the foot of the Shivalik Hills. The nearest place is Kathgodam Railway Station. Auli was once named after Queen Victoria. It is now called Auli due to the change in name of the Queen. It has great views of Shivalik range and offers magnificent view of Himalayas. Its weather is pleasant and the temperature ranges from 8 to 20 degrees centigrade. It is a perfect place for trekking.

3. Ropeway Ride (Shimla)

Ropeway ride is one of the best rides in India. You can go high up in the mountains and enjoy the stunning beauty of nature with the amazing views of valley and snow covered peaks. The Shimla Ropeways runs from Rohru to Panchwati. It takes approximately 30 minutes to reach the top. On reaching the top you find yourself surrounded by lush green forests, valleys, and lakes offering picturesque views. It was built between 1857-1859.

4. Jakhu Temple

Jakhu temple is one of the oldest temples dedicated to Lord Shiva. It was constructed in 12th century. Though the temple looks old, it was restored in 2005. Jakhu Temple is located close to the Lohar village. One can visit the temple anytime of the day as it opens 24x7. It is surrounded by apple orchards and paddy fields.

5. Hemkund Sahib

Hemkund Sahib is located around 70 km away from Delhi. It is situated near the town of Dharamsala. This holy site has three lakes namely Ganga Sagar, Yamuna Sagar, and Saraswati Sagar. One can take rest at the banks of these lakes under the shade of pine trees. People come to the lake from all over the world. The temperature changes drastically throughout the year. The summers are extremely hot and winters are cold.

6. Darjeeling Tea Gardens

Darjeeling is famous for its tea gardens. These gardens are open for tourists. One can buy tea from the garden gate and have a cup of tea with lunch or dinner. Most visitors purchase their lunch or dinner inside the estate. We had our breakfast outside in the garden.

7. Kudremukh National Park

Kudremukh National park is located in the West Bengal state of India. It is spread across two districts – Kalimpong and NJP. It covers an area of about 1,907 sq km.This national park is home to the endangered species. One can spot tigers, deer, bears, langurs, and birds. Wildlife enthusiasts can book jungle safaris to know more about flora and fauna.
